Swimming and Diving Start Slow At Big Ten Quad

Madison, Wis. - The University of Illinois swimming and diving team struggled on the first day of competition at the Big Ten Quad Meet in Madison this evening as they trail in all three meets. After day one of the two day event, Illinois trails Wisconsin 110-75, Minnesota 109-76 and Purdue 105.5-79.5.

Senior Ilkay Dikmen kept up her success in the 100 breast by finishing second in a time of 1:03.87. The Illini relay team of Dikmen, Christina Brunka, Casey Boyd, and Meghan Farrell followed up great week by swimming to second place in the 200 medley hitting the wall at 1:46.68. Barbie Viney finished the 50 fly in third place in a time of 24.25.

As for the divers, Lisa Fish struggled on the first day in the 3-meter placing seventh with a score of 401.25. Freshman Jackie Bain ended up ninth with 378.55 points.

Illinois finishes up competition at the quad meet with a single session at 10 a.m. CST on Saturday.
