In the warmest practice of the season, the Illini football team donned the shoulder pads for a two-hour session number four, Saturday morning. It was a spirited workout with 30 minutes of teamperiods and 20 minutes of 7-on-7 in 80-degree weather. Sunday's session will be the first for the team in full pads and the last in Champaign before the entire team reports to Camp Rantoul that evening.
SHARING SPACES: The Illini practiced in the morning as to complete the day's work before the Chicaog Bears took over the stadium for their preseason game against the Indianpolis Colts. Two former Illini will be returning to Memorial Stadium to play on the turf for the first time since the home closer against Ohio State last season. Linebacker Jerry Schumacher is looking to earn a spot on the Bears' roster, while wide receiver Aaron Moorehead hopes to impress Colts coaches on familiar ground.
BIG CROWD - FAMILY AFFAIR: The Champaign-Urbana community is showing its excitement and support for the Illini football team with big crowds at each of the first four practice sessions. However, the weekend brought out a group more familiar to the players - their families. Illini families in attendance included: Dave and Laura Babcock; Nancy and Jim Beutjer and grandmother Denise Beutjer; David and Paula Hilderbrand and sister; Gary Kornfeld and brother John; Jerry Ramshaw and brother Charlie; Steve Ward and brother Ryan; mother of Travis Williams, Carolyn Johnson; James Stevenson and David and Linda Keely.
