Cypress, Texas - The Illinois women's golf team finished in sixth place at the 10th annual Texas A&M "Mo"Morial Invitational, held at the par 72, 6,118-yard Blackhorse Golf Club in Cypress, Texas. Illinois shot a 36-hole score of 626 (rounds of 318 and 308) to take sixth in the 19-team tournament. Baylor won the "Mo"Morial with a score of 610, 16 strokes ahead of the Illini.
The "Mo"Morial was originally scheduled for 54 holes, but rain on Monday suspended play and the tournament was shortened to 36 holes, all played on Tuesday.
Leading the way for the Illini was senior Stephanie Cheney. Cheney carded rounds of 75 and 77 to finish 8-over par with a total score of 152. Fellow senior Renata Young finished just one stroke behind Cheney, tying for 14th place with a 9-over score of 153 (76-77). This marks the second consecutive tournament that Cheney and Young have finished in the Top 20 individually for the Illini.
Baylor's Melanie Hagewood captured medalist honors, shooting a 1-over score of 145.
Illinois is next in action March 23-25 at the Tapatio Springs Shootout.
