Bloomington, Ind. - The University of Illinois swimming and diving team placed fifth out of nine teams at the Indiana Invitational today as host Indiana won the event with 838 points. Arkansas held off Illinois for fourth place with 481points, Illinois finished with 440 points, and Michigan State followed with 387 points for sixth.

"This was a tough day for our swimmers. We had about half the break between sessions as we had the first two days which made for a quick turnaround," head coach Sue Novitsky said. "However, I thought we did really well once again today, we had a lot of experienced swimmers step up along with our freshmen which was great to see. We knew coming in that this was going to be a difficult event with all the great teams that were lined up, but overall this is a good experience for everyone to learn from and see what we need to correct for meets in the future."

Senior Ilkay Dikmen won the 200 breast, finishing in 2:31.55. This was Dikmen's second win in the meet and her second "B" standard time. Teammates Kirsten Koepcke and Crystal McAdam also enjoyed a great final day. Koepcke finished the 1650 free in sixth place in a time of 17:07.93. Meanwhile, McAdam finished sixth in the 200 fly with a time of 2:21.10 and was 12th in the 100 free with a time of 58.29.

Freshman Barbie Viney and Jessica Rothenberg gave the Orange and Blue a boost with some great swims on Sunday. Viney finished sixth in the 100 free swimming to a time of 57.55. Rothenberg showed great promise for the future with a career performance in the 200 fly finishing 18th with a time of 2:24.53.

Finally, Illinois' A relay team finished sixth in the 400 freestyle relay in a time of 3:53.72.

Illinois returns to action Dec. 5-7 when the team travels to the Miami (OH) Invitational.
