MIAMI, FL. - The Illinois Women's Golf team shot a 318 to put them in a tie for 3rd place after round one at the 26th Annual Pat Bradley Golf Championship, hosted by Florida International at the Par 71, 6,084-yard Doral Golf Resort and Spa in Miami. Sophomore Megan Godfrey opened with a 6-over-par, 77, to lead the Illini after one day.
Godfrey opened with a 38 on the front side and followed that up with a 39 on the back en route to her 77, which put her in a tie for 6th place individually. Senior Marla Cox finished a shot behind Godfrey with a 78 to put her in a tie for 12th place. Rounding out the action for the Illini were junior Megan O'Neal with an 81, senior Michelle Carroll with an 82, and freshman Meghan Naik with an 85.
The host school Florida International opened with a score of 310, putting them in first place. Florida Southern sits in second place at 316, while the Illini and Princeton are tied for third at 318, eight shots back. Bethune Cookman's Maria Dunne shot a 73 to take the lead after the first day, two shots ahead of Ball State's Ali Meyer.
Play at the Pat Bradley Golf Championship resumes tomorrow with the second round of 18 holes, followed by the final 18 on Sunday, November 2nd.
