Franklin, Ind. - The Illinois women's golf team is in fourth place after two rounds of play today at the Shootout at The Legends, held on the par 72, 6,122-yard The Legends G.C. in Franklin, Ind. Illinois shot an opening round 303 and followed with a school-record 296 in the second round. The 296 ties the Illinois school record the team shot last fall at the Lady Northern at Stone Creek G.C. The Illini own a 36-hole score of 599, 23-over par. Kent State is in first place in the 16-team field at 589, 10 strokes ahead of the Illini. Indiana is in second place at 592, while Missouri is in third at 595.
Senior Laurin Kanda is tied for third place individually, currently 1-over for the tournament. Kanda opened with a 73 and then followed up with an even-par 72 to give her a 36-hole total of 145. Indiana's Karen Dennison leads the field at 6-under with a 138, seven shots ahead of Kanda.
Senior Stephanie Cheney is also in the Top 15, tied for 12th place at 5-over. Cheney carded rounds of 75 and 74 on her way to a 149.
The 54-hole Shootout at The Legends concludes Tuesday with the final round of play.
