The University of Illinois Swimming and Diving team hosted a quadrangular meet Saturday morning, winning two of three duals at IMPE Pool, improving to 3-1 on the young season. Illinois defeated Michigan State and Southern Illinois by scores of 176-120 and 206-89, respectively. The lone defeat came at the hands of the Missouri Tigers, who defeated the Fighting Illini 181-117.
"This is probably the most exciting meet I've been to in a while," head coach Sue Novitsky said. "I was proud of the fact that everyone came to race today. Kids improved from last night and they showed a lot of the elements we've been working on in practice."
Junior Crystal McAdam remained dominant, winning three events for the Orange and Blue. She won the 200 free (1:52.11), 200 IM (2:07.22) and 500 free (5:00.03). In the 500 free the Illini finished 1-2-3, with McAdam in first, sophomore Kirsten Koepcke second ((5:02.11) and freshman Britta Jansson third (5:05.09). Keopcke also won the 1000 free, finishing in a time of 10:14.24.
Junior Ilkay Dikmen had a strong day for the Illini as well. Dikmen won both the 100 breast (1:04.24) and 200 breast (2:18.93). Sophomore Trisha Lakatos finished second in the 200 breast (2:23.62), giving Illinois its' second 1-2 finish of the day.
In other women's action, Michigan State defeated SIU 185.5-112.5. Missouri was a perfect 3-0 Saturday, beating Michigan State 196-98 and SIU 200-88. In men's action, SIU posted a victory over Michigan State 200-99. Missouri defeated both Michigan State (177-122) and SIU (158.5-140.5)
Illinois returns to the pool Saturday, Nov. 2, when they play host to the Indiana Hoosiers at IMPE pool. Action is slated to begin at 1 p.m.
