The Fighting Illini traveled to Marquette today and beat the Golden Eagles 6-1 in dual-match play, with all singles wins in straight-sets and a sweep of the doubles competition.

In doubles, head coach Sujay Lama experimented with three different combinations, Michelle Webb and Simone Kung at No.1, Carla Rosenberg and Eva Choe at No. 2 and Eldina Fazlic and Jennifer McGaffigan at No. 3. All three teams won, 9-7 at No.1 and No.2 and 8-2 at No. 3, to capture the doubles point.

In singles action, the Illini were led by McGaffigan at No.1 with a 7-5, 6-2 victory over Genevieve Charron and Fazlic at No. 2, with a 6-2, 6-1 defeat of Eva Trujillo-Herrera. Also picking up singles victories were Choe at No.4, 6-1, 6-1, Webb at No. 5, 6-2, 6-1, and Rosenberg at No.6, 6-1, 6-0.

"We started off a little rusty today after not having played a match in a couple of weeks," said Lama. "Plus, we tried out a couple of new doubles combinations. Overall, I was pleased that, even though we didn't play our best, we were able to win relatively handily," Lama continued.

"I hope this will be good preparation for the big matches coming up against Notre Dame Thursday and Iowa on Saturday."

Illinois' next match is Thursday April 5th, against No. 7 Notre Dame at the Atkins Tennis Center. The match is scheduled to begin at 3 p.m.
