URBANA, Ill. - Illinois women's tennis wrapped up ITA Midwest Regional competition on Day 5 of the event as Tess Bucher and Alice Xu fell in the doubles semifinals. Doubles action took place outdoors while singles play occurred inside the Atkins Tennis Center.
The Illini tandem dropped the first set of play 6-2 before claiming the second set 6-4. In the super breaker, both sides held leads before the Northwestern duo won a 10-8 decision on the third match point.
By advancing to the doubles semifinals, Xu and Bucher have earned a spot in the ITA Sectionals slated for Nov. 6-9 in College Station, Texas. McKenna Schaefbauer also qualified for the event by advancing to the singles quarterfinals.
ITA Midwest Regional play concludes on Tuesday with the doubles championship match at 10 a.m. CT outdoors and the singles championship match at 1 p.m. indoors.
