The Fighting Illini women's swimming and diving team concluded a successful weekend with a second place finish at the Northwestern Relays held this afternoon in Evanston, Ill. Illinois' 178 points finished second to Northwestern's 203 and ahead of third-place Indiana's 158 points.
"I'm very happy with how we performed today," Illinois head coach Sue Novitsky said. "It's been a long weekend for the team but they got faster as the weekend went on and that shows good team character. We're in a very good spot right now after beating a very good Indiana team and keeping up with Northwestern. We need to keep on going from here."
Illinois won three events at the meet. The 200 medley relay team of Alison Czmarko, Ilkay Dikmen, Astrid Matthias and Ashley Braun took home first place with a time of 1:46.65. The 400 medley relay team was also victorious, as Czmarko, Dikmen, Matthias and Crystal McAdam won in a time of 3:53.15. Finally, the 300 backstroke relay of Czmarko, Sara O'Fallon and Jessica Aveyard took home first place after clocking 2:52.53.
Illinois takes next weekend off before hosting the Illini Fall Classic Friday-Saturday, Nov. 9-10 at IMPE Pool.
