Rogers, Ark. - After a strong first day of competition, the Illini women's golf team is in third place at the 15-team Lady Razorback Invitational, hosted by the University of Arkansas on the par-72, 5,910 yard Pinnacle Country Club Course. Illinois shot a 315 in the morning round and added a score of 311 in the afternoon, good for a two-round total of 626 and third place. The Illini are just eight shots off the lead, as Big Ten rival Minnesota carded an opening day 618. Texas-El Paso is in second with a score of 621, five strokes ahead of the Illini.
Leading the Illini during today's action was junior Renata Young. Young-a native of Rogers, Ark., where the tournament is being contested-shot 79 in round one and fired a 75 in the afternoon, good for a 36-hole total of 154. Young is currently in sixth place individually. Her second round score of 75 was the eighth-lowest score posted on the afternoon.
Junior Laurin Kanda also cracked the Top Ten on the leaderboard, shooting a 156 (77-79) to put her into a tie for eighth place. Sophomore Marla Cox is in a tie for 12th place after shooting 157 (81-76).
The final round of the Lady Razorback Invitational concludes Tuesday. Tee times begin at 8 a.m.
