Illini Improve Score, But Fall To 12th

MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. - The Illini improved by two strokes as a team in the second round of the 2000 Lady Northern, but they fell two places to 12th in the standings. The Illinois team shot a 321 to bring its tournament total to 644. Ohio State is leading the 16-team field with a 608.

Sophomore Laurin Kanda led the Illini with a 79 in the opening round. She is tied for 36th place after shooting an 80 today. Sophomore Stephanie Cheney improved from an 82 to a 79. She is tied for 51st. Sophomore Renata Young shot her second round of 81 today to bring her tournament total to 162. She is tied for 60th place. Ireland-native Michelle Carroll moved up into a tie for 79th after dropping five strokes in the second round. She shot an 81 today. Newcomer Marla Cox fell into 83rd place after shooting an 87 to bring her tournament total to 168. Sophomore transfer student Carmel Sielicki is tied for 84th with a two-day total of 170.

The Final round of the Lady Northern will be played on Sunday at the 72-par, 5,979-yard Les Bolstad University of Minnesota Golf Course.
