OLD DOMINION COACH TONY GUZZO
"The game shaped up to the kind of ballgame we thought it would be. Looking
at the two teams and comparing what we thought would happen, both teams
played well, but they played a little better.
"Both pitchers pitched very well, and you have to give Illinois pitcher Jason
Anderson credit. Every time he got in a jam, he got out of it, and there were
not many of those.
"We were committed to (starting pitcher) Shawn (Weaver) for the whole game.
We wanted to win or lose it with him. He pitched a good game, but they
(Illinois) just played better.
"We now are in the position where it's a must win situation. One of the teams
tomorrow will be playing in their last game of the year."
ILLINOIS COACH ITCH JONES
"It was a great ball game, a well pitched ballgame by Weaver and (Jason)
Anderson. It was an outstanding game, and it was just unfortunate that one of
those guys had to lose. It was just a great college baseball game. We were
just fortunate to get those runs -- God blessed us with the runs we needed
and the pitching we needed in order for us to come out and win this game and
put us in the position of playing in the winner's bracket.
"This was the seventh straight complete game from our pitchers, going back
to the last game of the season."
