CHAMPAIGN, Ill. -- Freshman Stephanie Cheney shot a 1-over par 73, her lowest round of the season, to finish in a tie for 21st place with a two-round total of 152 strokes. Cheney tied with freshman teammate Laurin Kanda who also shot a 152 at the Lady Aztec Invitational. Renata Young, the other freshman competing in the tournament for the Illini, dropped six strokes in the second round to tie for 53rd with a total of 158 shots.
Illinois tied with the University of Portland for 12th place. Both teams had a total of 631 shots in the two-round tournament in El Cajon, Calif. The competition was held at the 72 par, 6,207 yard Willow Glen Golf Course,
The Illini will take some time off before facing some familiar Big Ten Conference opponents April 8-9 at the Indiana Invitational.
