- Played soccer for Phil Depauw at Saint Joseph High School.
- Three-year varsity letter winner with soccer, basketball and track and field.
- Led SJHS in assists (10) as a senior.

- Has three brothers: Michael, Matthew and Mark.

- Father Harry, now retired, was a legendary offensive line coach. Coached at Illinois from 1997-04 and also featured stops with the Chicago Bears, Tennessee and Notre Dame.
- Brother Mark currently plays football for Air Force.
- Brother Michael played football for Illinois State.
