Garrett Schwettman is in his first season as a special teams analyst at Illinois in 2019. He came to Champaign-Urbana from Western Kentucky, where he was a special teams graduate assistant in 2018.

Schwettman was an all-conference kicker at Western Kentucky in 2015, capping his career by breaking his own school record for points scored in a season and becoming WKU’s all-time points scored leader (398) during his senior season. He was a Lou Groza Award semifinalist after leading the nation in field goal percentage at 93.8 percent, going 15 of 16 with his lone miss on a blocked kick at Indiana. Schwettman went 54 of 66 (81.8 percent) on field goals for his career and set 10 school records. 

Following his playing career, Schwettman began his coaching career as a special teams quality control coach at Murray State. He then served as a co-special teams coordinator/specialists coach at Ave Maria University (NAIA) before going back to his alma mater. 

Schwettman is a native of Murray, Kentucky, and graduated from Western Kentucky in 2016. He is married to Lindsey Schwettman.Â
