Cody Gibson is in his second year as an offensive analyst at Illinois in 2019. Gibson came to the Fighting Illini after spending 2017 as an offensive graduate assistant at West Virginia.

Gibson helped offensive coordinator Rod Smith engineer a huge turnaround to the Illinois offense in 2018, led by All-Big Ten running back Reggie Corbin. The revamped Illinois offense leaped in the national rankings to 12th in rushing yards per game (+110 spots in the rankings), second in 40+ yard runs (+93), 51st in yards per play (+73) and 62nd in total offense (+64). Illinois made the biggest improvement in the nation in rushing, averaging 137.4 yards more in 2018 than the previous season. The Illini averaged 243.0 rushing yards per game, good for second-best in the Big Ten and fifth on the Illinois season rushing average list.

Gibson played football at West Virginia Wesleyan College and majored in business management.

Gibson's father, Tony Gibson, is the co-defensive coordinator and safeties coach at North Carolina State.

Gibson and his fiancé, Erin McClafferty, got engaged in November 2018.
