Illinois Athletics Hall of Fame Criteria

Nearly 1,000 former Fighting Illini student-athletes, coaches and administrators are automatically eligible for Hall of Fame consideration. A complete list of those people automatically eligible can be viewed here. The general public is invited to submit additional nominations by using the form below.

CRITERIA FOR STUDENT-ATHLETE NOMINEES

Automatic Nominee Criteria

 All-American (by NCAA recognized selectors)
 National Individual Champion Big Ten Individual Champion
 Repeat All-Big Ten Performer (1st or 2nd Team) National Award or Trophy Recipient
 American Record Holder (mark must be recognized by proper governing body)
 World Record Holder (mark must be recognized by proper governing body)
 U.S. Olympic Team Member Olympic Medalist
 Pro or Collegiate Hall of Fame Member
 There is a five-year waiting period from the completion of their athletic playing or coaching career at University of Illinois.

Athlete must have earned at least one varsity letter from a varsity sport sponsored (or once sponsored) by the Division of Intercollegiate Athletics.

Consideration shall be given for personal conduct in life and personal contributions to the high ideals of intercollegiate athletics.

CRITERIA FOR COACH NOMINEES

A coach must have a profound impact on his/her team, athletic program and the University of Illinois in addition to:

 Head coach of a national championship team.
 National Coach of the Year. Repeat Conference (or district) Coach of the Year.
 Multiple Big Ten Conference Championships.
 Accomplishments or contributions after leaving UI that distinguished the individual and the University.

CRITERIA FOR ATHLETICS ADMINISTRATORS

Must have brought distinction and honor to the University of Illinois.

Contributions or accomplishments after leaving UI distinguished the individual and the University.
