ROSEMONT, Ill. – Sophia Beckmon was named the Big Ten Field Athlete of the Week the conference announced on Wednesday (Jan. 14). The last Illinois Big Ten Indoor Field Athlete of the Week was Tori Thomas on Jan. 29, 2025.
This honor comes on the heels of her performance last weekend at the Illini Open as she recorded the current world lead mark in the women's long jump at 6.81m (22-4 1/4). This mark not only leads the world but the NCAA and Big Ten as well while also being the new UI Armory record. She now has the 15th-best career-high long jump in women's NCAA Indoor history and it's the 22nd-furthest overall performance. After meet one, the two-time All-American has almost undoubtedly punched her ticket to the NCAA Indoor Championships.
