CHAMPAIGN, Ill. – Illinois men's gymnastics student-athletes Preston Ngai and Garrett Schooley secured Academic All-District honors by College Sports Communicators, the organization announced on Tuesday. Both Ngai and Schooley have earned CSC Academic All-District distinction for the first time in their respective careers.
To be eligible for the recognition, a nominee must have at least a 3.50 GPA and be at least a sophomore academically and athletically. Nominees must also be ranked in the top 75 in an event within their division, according to Road to Nationals rankings, and/or have competed at their divisional national championship event.
Ngai, a computer science major, became a two-time All-American during his second season with the Fighting Illini program in 2025. After winning the all-around at the NCAA Championships Qualifiers, Ngai placed fourth on pommel horse and in the all-around at the NCAA Championships en route to claiming All-America status.
A native of Elk Grove, California, Ngai competed in all 11 meets for the Orange and Blue in 2025, including both days of the Winter Cup and Big Ten Championships. He notched Academic All-Big Ten accolades for the first time this winter, and he has totaled four event titles thus far in his collegiate career.
After becoming a regular-season All-American on vault in 2025, Schooley posted a third-place finish on vault at the NCAA Championships. Taking home five vault titles across the 2025 campaign, the Sarasota, Florida, native competed in 10 meets, including both days of the Big Ten Championships, primarily on floor and vault. Schooley – majoring in recreation, sport, and tourism – was an Academic All-Big Ten honoree for the first time in his career this winter.
