URBANA, Ill. --The Fighting Illini topped Valparaiso, 5-1, at Eichelberger Field on Wednesday.
The Orange and Blue improved to 18-20 overall while Valpo fell to 17-22.
Karley Yergler started in the circle and picked up the win for Illinois. The right-hander went five innings, giving up one run on three hits, allowing one walk and striking out five. Danika Frazier and Briana Bower came out of the bullpen for the Orange and Blue. Yergler, Frazier and Bower limited Valparaiso to just 0-for-7 with runners in scoring position.
Offensively, the Fighting Illini out-hit the Beacons at a 7-3 clip. Eileen Donahue went 2-for-3 with a grand slam, the 55th in program history, in addition to her four RBI for the Fighting Illini. Adisyn Caryl compiled a noteworthy performance at the dish as well, going 1-for-3 with a home run. Lizzie Stiverson also helped out the Illinois offense, putting together two hits in three trips to the plate.
