COLUMBIA, Mo. - Illinois softball fell to Missouri, 5-3, at Mizzou Softball Field on Tuesday afternoon.
The Fighting Illini dropped to 13-12 overall while the Tigers improved to 17-13 this season.
In the circle, Lauren Wiles tossed 5.2 innings, taking the loss to move to 6-4 during her senior season as she allowed three runs on six hits while walking four. Megan Nuechterlein made her 11th appearance of the year in the loss.
Offensively Ella Cushing led the way, going 1-for-3 with a solo home run. Stevie Meade impressed from the leadoff position, posting a 2-for-2 day at the plate with a pair of doubles.
How It Happened
Through the Illini half of the fifth, both teams were held scoreless. However, the Tigers tacked on the first run of the day, a solo homer over the centerfield fence, to open the scoring.Â
The Missouri advantage was short lived with Cushing roping a ball over the wall in left field, locking the game 1-1.
In the bottom of the sixth, the Orange and Blue allowed four runs in the frame to fall behind, 5-1, with just three outs remaining.
The Illini rallied in the seventh, posting a pair of baserunners with no outs on the board. Meade posted her second double of the day and Adisyn Caryl sent a ball into center, cutting into the 5-3 deficit. However, three-straight outs followed Caryl's base knock, ending the rally and handing Illinois the defeat.
