FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – Illinois softball came up short against #11/12 Arkansas, 10-1, in six innings at Bogle Park as a part of the Wooo Pig Classic on Saturday night.Â
The Fighting Illini dropped to 9-8 this year while the Razorbacks improved to 18-1.
London Park got her first collegiate start, taking the loss. Karley Yergler, Danika Frazier, and Megan Nuechterlein also came on in relief.Â
Paige Berkmeyer went 1-for-2Â at the plate with an RBI single. Zoie Howard went 1-for-1 in her lone plate appearance and scored a run.Â
How it Happened
The Razorbacks struck in the first, putting up a run during their opening at-bat. After a scoreless second by both squads, Arkansas added a pair in the third, extending the 3-0 deficit for the Fighting Illini.
The Orange and Blue threatened in the fourth, as Adisyn Caryl and Berkmeyer reached on a single and a walk. However, a strikeout ended the Illini rally.
The opposition extended its advantage in the fifth, tacking on four runs during the frame.
Illinois did not back down with Howard tallying a leadoff single in the sixth. With two away and Howard on third, Berkmeyer sent a single through the left side, bringing home a run for the Orange and Blue.
The late rally was not enough for the Illini as a three-run home for the Razorbacks ended the 10-1 defeat in six innings.
