FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – Illinois softball fell to Iowa, 3-1, at Bogle Park to close out the Wooo Pig Classic on Sunday.Â
The Fighting Illini dropped 9-9 while Iowa improved 13-5 this year. Despite the teams being Big Ten foes, the contest counted towards the non-conference slate.
Lauren Wiles earned her eighth start in the circle this season and took the loss to fall to 5-3 on the year. The senior tossed 3.2 innings and allowed three runs on six hits while striking out three. Karley Yergler saw action in the circle, allowing just three hits during her 2.1 innings of work.
Ava Moore's two extra base hits were the highlight of a 2-for-3 day, and included a triple, a home run and an RBI.
How It Happened
After a pair of scoreless innings by both the Hawkeyes and Illini, the Orange and Blue got on the board with Moore sending a home run over the left field fence.
Iowa loaded the bases with two away in the bottom of the fourth and the Illini walked in a run, locking the battle 1-1. The opposition tacked on a pair following the play, taking the 3-1 lead.
Despite having three innings to make up the deficit, the Illini offense was unable to plate a run, falling to the Hawkeyes in the tournament finale.
