SARASOTA, Fla. – Fighting Illini women's golf ended the Spartan Suncoast Invitational in eighth place after carding a 54-hole team total of 874 (+10), including a third round total of 291 (+3) today at Palm Aire Country Club.
Anna Ritter secured her second top 10 finish of the season by firing a third round 73 (-1) to finish tied for ninth at 1-under overall. Ritter posted a pair of birdies to give her a tournament total of 10. The junior led Illinois in par 3 (2.92, -1) and par 5 (4.67, -4) scoring average.
Yurang Li posted the lowest score by an Illini in today's final round, a 3-under 69, her second round under 70 this season, to finish tied for 30th. Li totaled five birdies during the round, including two on her bogey-free back nine.
Victoria Zheng, Brielle Mapanao and Lexanne Halama all finished tied for 42nd with rounds of 74 (+2), 75 (+3) and 78 (+6), respectively. Zheng led the field with 44 total pars during the tournament.
Hosts Michigan State claimed the team honors at 4-under (860) overall while Ohio State's Kary Hollenbaugh took the individual crown at 9-under (207).
The Fighting Illini will be back in action on Feb. 24 at The Chevron Collegiate, hosted by Houston, at the Golf Club of Houston in Humble, Texas.
