CHAMPAIGN, Ill. – For the second-straight year, the Illini men's gymnastics team was named the national academic team champion by the Collegiate Gymnastics Association (CGA), the association announced on Sunday.
"These young men continue to show their elite commitment to every aspect of their lives," said head coach Daniel Ribeiro. "After finishing our season as regular-season co-Big Ten champions and earning a high bar national champion, I am so proud of this team for becoming back-to-back academic national champions. While they are dominating during their time here at the University of Illinois, they are also setting themselves up for incredibly bright futures!"
Illinois' 3.72 team GPA was a 0.063 improvement from last year, and good for a 0.12 lead on runner-up Stanford. Nineteen Illini earned CGA Academic All-American honors, 17 of which were named first team honorees.
