CHAMPAIGN, Ill. – Illinois men's gymnastics assistant coach Don Osborn has been inducted into the Indiana Gymnastics Hall of Fame as part of the Class of 2026.
Osborn was a four-year letterwinner at Indiana State, helping the Sycamores to the 1977 national championship, the university's only NCAA Division I team title. He was also a three-time United States Gymnastics Federation (USGF) National Championship qualifier and placed fifth at the 1980 Hungarian Invitational.
He has long established himself within the gymnastics coaching profession, having spent over two decades in a coaching capacity with the Fighting Illini. Osborn has also been a certified judge since his graduation from Indiana State in 1980.
As Illinois' head coach from 1994-96, Osborn's gymnasts claimed 12 Big Ten individual championships in addition to nine NCAA All-America nods. He led the program to nearly 50 wins during his three years at the helm. He also served as an assistant coach under Yoshi Hayasaki for eight seasons (1985-93), during which the Orange and Blue claimed a pair of Big Ten championships in addition to the 1989 NCAA national team title.
After 20 years away from the program as a youth team coach, Osborn rejoined the Fighting Illini as an assistant in 2015. Named the CGA Central Region Assistant Coach of the Year and presented with the prestigious Honor Coach award in 2024, Osborn now enters his 12th season as an assistant coach in his second stint at Illinois.
