CHAMPAIGN, Ill. – Gymnasts Mia Takekawa and Mia Townes have been named to the College Sport Communicators (CSC) Academic All-District At-Large list, the association announced Tuesday.
To be eligible for the award, a nominee must have a 3.50 GPA or higher, be enrolled full-time, and be at least a sophomore academically and athletically. Gymnasts must also be ranked in the top 75 in an event within their division by Road to Nationals.
Takekawa pursued her master's degree in bioengineering while earning an Academic All-Big Ten nod for the fourth consecutive year. The Sacramento, Calif., native also notched her fourth First Team All-Big Ten honor.
Townes completed her master's degree in strategic brand communication and was also awarded her fourth-straight Academic All-Big Ten award.
Both student-athletes remained staples in the Illini lineup during their final seasons, competing in all 16 meets and ultimately earning spots on the All-Championships Team at the Big Ten Championships. The duo helped lead the Orange and Blue to its 20th-consecutive NCAA regional appearance to cap off the 2024 campaign.
