LINCOLN, Neb. – No. 2 Illinois men's gymnastics took its second loss of the season to No. 5 Nebraska 416.550-406.050 Sunday afternoon at Devaney Sports Center.
The Illini go to 11-2 on the year and 1-1 in Big Ten competition while the Cornhuskers go to 6-2 overall and 3-1 in conference action.
"We made a few too many uncharacteristic mistakes today," head coach Daniel Ribeiro said. "Nebraska had a day and beat us. This loss gives us some things to learn and grow from. We will do better next week."
Will Hauke had a successful day, notching a career high on both pommel horse (14.400) and parallel bars (14.650). Hauke also took the title win on parallel bars, with Brandon Dang taking the pommel horse title (15.150).
Floor
Connor McCool took the top Illini score with a 14.000, placing third. Michael Fletcher and Garrett Schooley also had notable scores, both scoring a 13.750.
Pommel Horse
Following Dang and Hauke, freshman Preston Ngai tallied a 13.750 with Max Farkhadau scoring a 13.250.
Still Rings
Reigning Still Rings National Champion Ashton Anaya tallied a 14.200, just .10 behind first place. Sebastian Ingersoll collected a 13.700 with Schooley earning a 13.500.
Vault
Amari Sewell led the Illini with a 14.700, good enough for second place. Ngai tallied a 14.350 with McCool scoring a 14.300.
Parallel Bars
Vahe Petrosyan had another stellar performance, scoring a 14.050 and placing third. Fletcher kept up the momentum, taking a 13.950.
High Bar
Schooley took a career high with a 13.500, taking second place. Ryan Vanichtheeranont recorded a 13.250 with Fletcher taking a 13.100.
