EAST LANSING, Mich. – No. 25 Illinois loses battle to No. 18 Michigan State 197 475-196.275 Friday evening at the Jenison Field House.
The Illini fall to 6-4 overall and 1-3 in conference competition while Michigan State goes to a 7-3 record and 4-0 in conference competition.
Being the visiting team, the Illini started on bars. Mia Takekawa and Lyden Saltness took the top Illini scores with a pair of 9.875s.
Onto vault, senior Kaydn Fitzgibbon took Illinois' top score with a 9.775.
Mia Townes had the highest floor score with a 9.925, just .25 behind first place. Allie Morgan secured a 9.850 with Kadyn Fitzgibbon and Abby Mueller scoring a pair of 9.825s.
Ending with beam, Takekawa not only took a season-high 9.950, but also the event win. Kaitlyn Ewald and Ruthuja Nataraj also secured some 9.85s.
Illinois will be back in action in the 2024 GymQuarters Invitational against No. 12 Missouri, No. 6 Florida and Lindenwood on Feb. 16 at 6 p.m. CT in St. Louis, Missouri.
