SOUTH BEND, Ind. – The Illinois men's and women's track and field teams concluded the final day of the Meyo Invitational on Saturday (Feb. 3).
Graduate student Amber Simpson once again broke her own weight throw school record and eclipsed 22 meters for the first time in her career. She placed third in competition with the nation's tenth-best throw, 22.01m (72-2 1/2). This marks the fourth time in five meets that she's broken the school record.
Her teammate freshman Jordan Koskondy improved her program's second-best throw to 20.23m (66-4 1/2), she placed fifth in today's competition.
Senior Jack Roberts broke the tape in the men's 3000m race. He climbed up to fifth in the program record book clocking in at 8:04.29. Junior Halle Hill now own's the school's sixth-fastest mile (4:41.86), she placed third.
Senior Will Merrick laid down the seventh-fastest mile time in Illinois history in his fifth-place finish today (4:01.26). Junior Sam Poglitsch placed fifth as well with a new personal-best mile (4:46.65).
Freshman Asia Thomas sprinted to a 60m silver medal (7.38). Junior Kelsey Rothas placed second in the pole vault, 4.05m (13-3 1/2), and sophomore Mia Morello placed third, 3.90m (12-9 1/2). Sophomore Brady Masters clocked a new personal-best mile (4:09.97).

The Illini track and field teams are back in action next week Feb. 9-10 for the Tiger Paw Invitational in Clemson S.C.
