CHAMPAIGN, Ill. – No. 5 Illinois men's gymnastics defeated No. 3 Michigan at Huff Hall Saturday afternoon with a score of 413.800-410.350, a season high team score.
"I knew going into this meet we needed some major improvements to take down Michigan," head coach Daniel Ribeiro said. "We focused on consistency and sticks last week, and the boys showed up today! Last week we went 23/30 on sticks, this week we improved to 29 for 30. The guys focused on their control today, they followed the plan laid out for them and they came out on top! This is another massive victory for us. I am beaming with pride."
Ashton Anaya, Brandon Dang and Connor McCool all won titles in the competition -- Anaya on still rings, Dang on pommel horse and McCool on floor.
McCool scored a season high on floor with a 14.550 with Tate Costa recording a career-high 14.300 on the apparatus as well.
Dang notched a career-high 15.200 on pommel horse with Will Hauke also breaking his career-high on horse for the second week in-a-row with a 14.300.

Anaya also scored a season high on still rings with a 14.400 with Costa breaking another career high by scoring a 13.300.
Illinois set a new program record on vault with a 72.900 team score. Freshman Garrett Schooley tied his career high on vault with a 14.750 and Michael Fletcher was .1 behind him with a 14.650.
Fletcher carried his momentum onto parallel bars, notching the top Illinois score with a 14.100. Costa broke his third career high of the night as well, taking a 13.750.
Costa broke his fourth career high of the afternoon on high bar with a 14.300. Logan Myers also scored well, securing a 13.850.
Illinois will travel to Sarasota, Fla. for a neutral site meet against Simpson College on Feb. 9 at 6:30 p.m. CT for a non-conference meet before the Winter Cup.
