SAVOY, Ill. – The Illinois men's and women's cross country teams finished the Cross Country Big Ten Championships on Friday (Nov. 1) at the Orange and Blue Golf Course in Savoy, Ill. Senior Halle Hill broke the 6k school record with her 16th-place finish (19:43.7) to earn Second-Team All-Big Ten honors, the first since Emma Milburn earned the distinction in 2022. With the expansion of the Big Ten, first through 10th place were named First-Team All-Big Ten and 11-20th place were named Second-Team All-Big Ten.
Hill took down Angela Bizzarri's 19:46.0 school record that stood for 15 years when she set it at the 2009 NCAA Cross Country Championships and became Illinois' lone female national champion.
Junior Alex Partlow took down a school record today as well in the men's 8k; he placed 30th with a time of 23:19.6. He broke Dylan Lafond's 23:22.4 school record that was set at the 2015 Big Ten XC Championships with his third-place finish nine years ago today.
Two other Illinois women recorded top-10 program marks: sophomore Avril Andre, who placed 32nd in Friday's race (fifth, 20:03.5) and senior Sam Poglitsch, who placed 62nd (ninth, 20:28.4). Senior Tyler Cushing ran the program's eighth-fastest 8k in his 57th-place finish (23:45.5).
The men's team finished ninth out of 15 teams with 252 points, and the women's team finished 10th out of 18 teams with 277 points.
Every single men's runner set new personal bests and finished inside of the top-100: senior Anthony Maida (60th, 23:52.0), graduate student Stephen Moody (61st, 23:52.4), juniors Brady Masters (65th, 23:55.1) and Will Merrick (83rd, 24:07.0), and graduate student Joshua Daggett (92nd, 24:14.9).
On the women's side, three other runners set new personal-best times: freshman Kennady Anderson (98th, 20:55.8), sophomore Mabry Bruhn (113th, (21:05.6), and junior Audrey Ginsberg (153rd, 21:46.1).
This was the first time the Orange and Blue Golf Course hosted the Big Ten Cross Country Championships since Oct. 28, 2001. The last time Illinois hosted the event in general was on Oct. 30, 2011, at the UI Arboretum.
