CHAMPAIGN, Ill. -- The No. 24-ranked Illinois football team's Military Appreciation Day helmets feature multiple ways to honor those who have served. The Fighting Illini will wear the helmets when they host Minnesota on Saturday at 11 a.m. CT at Memorial Stadium. Tickets are available at FightingIllini.com.
10 Stars
The 10 stars around the helmet logo represent the 10 Fighting Illini football players who made the ultimate sacrifice for the security and freedom of our nation during WWII and the Vietnam War.
Memorial
Listed throughout the helmet stripe are the names of 189 students and alumni who died in WWI. These heroes are also honored on the Memorial Stadium columns.
POW/MIA
A POW/MIA sticker is on the back of each helmet to honor Americans who were prisoners of war or served and never returned home.
