CHAMPAIGN, Ill. – No. 22 Illinois women's gymnastics team will open conference competition in a contest with Nebraska in Lincoln at 6:30 p.m. CT on Saturday. Â
History
Historically, Nebraska holds a 12-2 record over the Illini. In recent history, however, Illinois has a 2-1 record over the Cornhuskers, including beating them last season at Huff Hall, 196.700-195.800. Illinois also ranks higher than Nebraska (Illinois: No. 22, Nebraska No. 26). Nine of the twelve losses came when Illinois visited Lincoln. Â
Senior Season Show
Senior Kaitlyn Ewald had a stand-out meet against West Virginia, Western Michigan and UW Oshkosh. While only competing on uneven bars due to illness, Ewald not only had the top Illinois score but also won the event with an outstanding 9.950 on the apparatus.
Ranked Illini
After scoring a 196.500 against West Virginia, Western Michigan and UW Oshkosh, Illinois is now ranked No. 22 in the country.
Mia Takekawa also earned a ranking of No. 17 after scoring a 9.900 on beam in Huff Hall.Â
