Ouimet Shatters Own Decathlon School Record, Becomes Medalist on Day Two of B1G Outdoor Championships

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – The Illinois track and field teams completed day two of the Big Ten Outdoor Championships on Saturday, May 13. Junior and walk-on Aiden Ouimet shattered his own decathlon school record to claim the bronze medal with 7,679 points, currently the 19th best score in the country. He set three new personal-best today, but none bigger than his javelin throw of 58.91m (193-3) to win the event. His other two PRs were in the 110mH (14.59) and 1,500m (4:40.74).

Sophomore Tacoria Humphrey claimed the silver medal in the long jump to lead Illini scorers with eight points, 6.32m (20-9). Freshman Viktor Morozov scored four points in the men's long jump with a 7.51m (24-7 3/4) leap.

Senior Danni Stoughton completed her heptathlon and etched her name into the Illinois record book with 5,104 points which is the tenth best for the Illini. She made the podium at eighth place to capture a point for her team.

Redshirt junior Ayah Aldadah and graduate student Emma Milburn both stepped on the 3,000m steeplechase podium. Aldadah placed sixth on a 10:17.74 and Milburn directly behind with a 10:18.19. Milburn passed two runners in the last 50 meters to claim her spot. In the men's 3,000mS junior Anthony Maida hit a big personal-best (9:02.54) to place seventh and score two points.

Junior Tyler Sudduth fought his way to the podium in a stacked shot put pool. He placed eighth with a 19.04m (62-5 3/4) on his fifth attempt.

Three other Illini qualified themselves for finals in today's prelims. First graduate student Bret Dannis placed second in his 110m hurdles heat, fifth overall, with the program's sixth fastest time (13.78) to automatically qualify. Sophomore DeVontae Ford clawed his way into the last 110mH qualifying spot, he placed ninth overall (13.99). Senior Tracy Towns clocked a personal-best 2:06.79 and placed sixth overall in the 800m to qualify for finals.
