CHAMPAIGN, Ill. – The Illinois men's and women's track and field teams completed the first day of the inaugural Gary Wieneke Memorial on Friday, April 21 from Demirjian Park. Freshman Olivia Campbell threw a new school record in the hammer throw with a 60.55m (198-8) heave and placed third. Redshirt freshman Carolina Hintz notched the program's fourth best throw, 51.39m (168-7), in her fifth place finish.
The men's 4x100m team of sophomore Daniel Mboyo, redshirt senior Kashief King, grad student Bret Dannis and sophomore DeVontae Ford started the slew of event wins for the Illini (40.71). Dannis would later win the 110m hurdles (14.44) and Mboyo claimed the long jump crown, 7.46m (24-5 3/4).
King went on to win the 200m with a new personal-best (20.88). Freshman Azariyah Bryant won the women's 200m (24.10) and Dystonae Clark placed fifth with a new personal-best (25.34).
Grad student Kionnah Weaver set a new personal-best in her 100m hurdle win (13.66); followed directly by freshman Macee Rivers on a new personal-best as well (13.83).
Junior Robert Williams took the gold in the 400m hurdles and was .02 seconds away from a new personal-best (51.16); Ford, directly behind, tied his PB (51.27).
Senior Edwin Siuda won the 3,000m steeplechase (9:13.18) followed by junior Anthony Maida (9:15.22). Senior Danni Stoughton won the 400m hurdles (1:01.26) and junior Michael Shafis won the javelin throw, 54.68m (179-4). Grad student Allanah Lee won the triple jump, 12.17m (39-11 1/4).
UP NEXT
The track and field teams are back in action tomorrow April 22 for the final day of the Gary Wieneke Memorial. Both field and running events are slated to begin at 1 p.m. CT. The high jump and pole vault will be held inside at the Armory still beginning at 1 p.m.
