NORMAN, Okla. – The No. 22 Fighting Illini women's gymnastics team ended their season in the second round of the NCAA Tournament in Norman, Okla. Thursday afternoon with a score of 195.675.
"This team has so many things to be proud of," head coach Nadalie Walsh said. "This final meet was not the way we envisioned the results, but there have been so may incredible victories this year -- from breaking school records to being the most connected and united team. We have many great foundations to keep building on for the future. We will all miss all the seniors so much and are forever grateful for their leadership and investment of the past years!"
Illinois started on bars where Kaitlyn Ewald tied her career-high of 9.90. Mallory Mizuki and Mia Takekawa both got 9.85s with Rachel Borden scoring a 9.825.
Takekawa led the way on beam, scoring a 9.90 with Mizuki, Mia Townes and Ruthuja Nataraj all scoring a 9.85.
Townes scored a 9.90 on floor with Takekawa and Kadyn Fitzgibbon scoring a 9.85. Ewald secured a 9.80 with Julia Waight notching a 9.775.
The Illini finished the meet holding their head high on vault, with Arielle Ward and Waight both scoring a 9.80 and Makayla Green secured a 9.725.
This season, Illinois has broken two program records - the floor record against Kentucky and Illinois State (49.525) and the beam record against Michigan State (49.450).
