LOS ANGELES - The Fighting Illini track and field teams completed the final day of the Rafer Johnson and Jackie Joyner-Kersee Invitational on Saturday, March 25. Sophomore Tacoria Humphrey set a new school record and a top-3 mark in the NCAA this season with a 6.39m (20-11 3/4) en route to her first place finish.
On the Track
The Illini success started in the 100mH with senior Kionnah Weaver finishing second with a personal-best 13.83. Weaver set another personal best in the 400mH with a 1:00.30 and topped the podium. Shortly after in the 110mH, Bret Dannis captured a first place finish with a 14.12. Senior Jason Thormo also ran a personal-best 46.88 in the 400m. In the women's 100m dash, freshman Azariyah Bryant finished first with a 11.53 and is now tenth in the record book. Bryant again found herself on the podium, this time in the 200m with a 24.22, good for third place.
It was a sweep in the 400mH as senior Robert Williams also claimed gold and recorded a personal-best with a 51.15. It was an Illinois sweep in both 4x400m relays, with Bryant, senior Danni Stoughton, freshman Madison Hardamon, and Weaver winning with a 3:42.18, while Thormo, freshman Tadeas Placek, senior Kashief King, and Williams won, crossing the line at 3:07.34.
In the Field
Junior Tyler Sudduth got things started for the Illini in the field with a 52.89m (173-6) personal-best and a third place finish in the discus throw. Sudduth won the shot put with a 18.81m (61-8 1/2) toss, with redshirt senior Will Rezny finishing third with a 17.42m (57-2) toss. Sophomore Daniel Mboyo finished third with a 7.28m (23-10 3/4) leap in the long jump.
It was a one-three finish in women's pole vault with sophomore Tori Thomas finishing first with a 4.04m (13-3) vault and freshman Mia Morello finishing third with a 3.89m (12-9). Morello's vault is now the eighth in the school record book. In the men's high jump, senior Alex Babbington finished second with a 2.06m (6-9), while CJ Shoaf finished with the same mark, coming in third. Finally, in the women's triple jump, graduate student Allanah Lee won the triple jump with a personal-best 12.41m (40-8 3/4) leap that's now ninth in the record book.

The Illinois track and field teams are back in action at home for the Fighting Illini Challenge on Saturday, April 8 at Demirjian Park.
