AMES, Iowa – The No. 18 Illinois wrestling squad finished out their regular season on Sunday, Feb. 12 in a hard fought 13-21 loss to No. 3 Iowa State. Redshirt junior No. 19 Zac Braunagel (197 lbs.) pulled off a big upset against No. 5 (No. 3 by FloWrestling) Yonger Bastida by a 4-3 decision.
Redshirt sophomore No. 10 Lucas Byrd (133 lbs.) started the scoring off for the Illini. He major decisioned No. 21 Zach Redding and accumulated 4:14 of riding time to improve to 23-3. This gave the Illini a 4-3 lead, their only one of the afternoon.
Sixth year senior No. 13 Mike Carr (157 lbs.) improved to 4-0 with his 10-8 decision win over No. 27 Jason Kraisser. This pulled the Illini within two, 7-9. Redshirt sophomore No. 11 Edmond Ruth (174 lbs.) picked up a win over No. 25 Julien Broderson, decision 3-2, to improve to 24-3. This made the team score 10-13.

The Illini wrestling squad is off for three weeks to prepare for the Big Ten Championships on Sat.-Sun. March 4-5 in Ann Arbor, Mich.
