Daniel Ribeiro Named Interim Head Men’s Gymnastics Coach

CHAMPAIGN, Ill. – University of Illinois Director of Athletics Josh Whitman has named Men's Gymnastics Associate Head Coach Daniel Ribeiro as the interim head coach for the 2022-23 season. Ribeiro has been an assistant under departing coach Justin Spring for the last 11 seasons, including seven seasons as associate head coach.

Ribeiro earned National Assistant Coach of the Year and Central Region Coach of the Year honors in 2012 after helping lead the Illini to the NCAA Championship and Big Ten title. As a member of the Fighting Illini men's gymnastics team from 2008-11, Ribeiro won two NCAA titles on pommel horse (2009, 2011) and was a three-time team captain, starting in his sophomore season.

The Chestnut Ridge, New York, native is also a three-time Big Ten pommel horse champion, taking top honors in his freshman, junior and senior seasons.
