Illini Make it Five-Straight with 4-2 Win over Purdue

Recap

URBANA, Ill. – The Illinois women's tennis team pushed its win streak to a season-best five matches as the Illini downed Purdue, 4-2, on Friday (April 8) afternoon at Atkins Tennis Center.

With the win, the Illini move to 13-6 on the season – including an impressive 10-1 mark at home – and 6-1 in the Big Ten.

The Illini won the doubles point for the 13th time this season as junior Emily Casati and freshman Kasia Treiber got things started with a 6-1 win on court three, before the Boilermakers (10-8, 2-4 B1G) tied it up with a 6-2 decision on court two. Sophomore Kate Duong and freshman Megan Heuser then finished the point off with a 6-3 win at No. 1 doubles.

Heuser then made it 2-0 in favor of the Illini with a 6-2, 6-0 win over Tara Katarina Milic at No. 3 singles, but Purdue responded with wins on courts one and six to knot the score at 2-2.

After winning the opening set and then dropping the second, junior Ashley Yeah toughed out a three-set victory over Carmen Guevara, 6-3, 2-6, 6-4, on court two to put the Illini within one point of victory. That point would come from Treiber with her fifth-straight singles win as the Hinsdale, Ill., native fought back for a 6-7 (5), 6-2, 6-1 come-from-behind win on court four to send the Illini to the 4-2 victory.
