BLOOMINGTON, Ind. — The Fighting Illini picked up a dominant 18-10 win over Indiana in Bloomington Saturday afternoon. Jack Crowder threw 6.0 innings, allowing just one run on five hits while striking out four. Illinois' 18 runs is its second-highest scoring output this season.
Four Illini had multi-hit games at the plate, including three hitters with three or more hits. Justin Janas tied a career high with five hits while also driving in three runs and scoring four. Both Taylor Jackson and Jacob Campbell each added home runs as well, while Branden Comia registered a three-hit game. Illinois is now 22-18 on the season and 12-5 in the B1G, while Indiana drops to 19-24 (5-9 B1G).
Illinois scored two runs in the first, third, and fifth innings before putting up ten in the sixth inning to take a 16-0 lead over the Hoosiers. Indiana scored all 10 of their runs in the final four frames, including a five-run eighth inning and a three-run ninth.
Jack Crowder improves to 3-1 on the season with the win while Indiana's Brehmer is now 4-3 after taking the loss.
The Fighting Illini and the Hoosiers will square off in the rubber game to decide the series tomorrow afternoon beginning at 12 p.m. CT.
