Illini Win Doubles in 4-1 Setback to No. 23 Michigan

ANN ARBOR, Mich. – The Illinois women's tennis team dropped a 4-1 decision to No. 23 Michigan on Friday (April 22) in Varsity Tennis Center.

The Illini move to 14-8 on the season and 7-3 in the Big Ten.

It was a battle in doubles as the Wolverines (15-5, 9-1 B1G) struck first on court two, before junior Emily Casati and freshman Kasia Treiber even things with a 6-4 win over Anca Craciun and Nicole Hammond on court three. It all came down to court one where sophomore Kate Duong and freshman Megan Heuser fought for a 7-6 (4) win to seal the doubles point for the visitors.

Despite the lead, the Illini could not hold on as the Wolverines won the opening set on all six courts en route to taking four-straight singles victories. UM took court six to start things off as Casati fell 6-1, 6-2 to Gala Mesochoritou. Duong then fell to No. 16 Kari Miller, 6-2, 6-4 on court one, before junior Josie Frazier dropped a 6-2, 6-2 decision to Nicole Hammond on court three. Treiber then suffered a 6-3, 6-3 setback to Julia Fliegner on court five for the 4-1 score.
