EAST LANSING, Mich. – The Illinois women's tennis team capped its 2022 regular season with a 4-1 win over Michigan State on Sunday (April 24) afternoon at the MSU Outdoor Tennis Courts.
The Illini wrapped the regular season with a 15-8 overall record and finished tied for third with an 8-3 mark in the Big Ten Conference. It is the fifth time in six seasons (excluding 2020 due to COVID-19) that the Illini have finished fourth or better in the conference standings.
For the 15th time this season, the Illini won the doubles point as the junior duo of Ashley Yeah and Josie Frazier sailed to a 6-1 victory on court two, before junior Emily Casati and freshman Kasia Treiber put the visitors ahead at 1-0 with a 6-4 win on court three.
Back-to-back straight-set singles wins from Frazier and freshman Megan Heuser then put the Illini one point from victory as Frazier secured a 6-1, 6-2 win over Maja Pietrowicz on court three and Heuser earned a 6-1, 6-4 decision over Lauren Lemonds on court four.
After the Spartans (9-13, 1-10 B1G) took court six, Treiber battled back after dropping her opening set to take the next two for a 2-6, 6-3, 6-2 win over Nicole Stephens on court five to clinch the 4-1 victory.

With the conclusion of the regular season, the Illini shift their focus to the 2022 Big Ten Women's Tennis Championships, held at the Hawkeye Tennis & Recreation Center in Iowa City, Iowa on April 27-May 1.
