LAWRENCE, Kan. – The Illinois women's tennis team opened its last nonconference road trip of the season with a 4-0 setback to Kansas on Friday (March 4) evening at the Jayhawk Tennis Center.
The Illini (7-4) dropped the doubles point with back-to-back 2-6 setbacks on courts one and two to give the Jayhawks (6-4) the early advantage.
In singles play, junior Ashley Yeah fell to #121 Malkia Nguonoue, 1-6, 1-6 on court two, before freshman Kasia Treiber fell in her comeback bid on court five, 0-6, 6-3, 3-6 to Mariana Manyoma-Velasque to put the home team ahead 3-0.
Classmate Megan Heuser took her opening set, but dropped the next two to fall to Carmen Roxana Manu, 6-3, 3-6, 5-7 as Kansas sealed the win despite the remaining three matches all tied up in the third or about to start the third set.
