URBANA, Ill. – The Illinois women's tennis team continued its strong play inside Atkins Tennis Center with a 4-3 victory over Maryland on Friday (March 25) night.
The Illini improved to 9-6 on the season and 2-1 in the Big Ten, while registering their eighth win at home.
Sophomore Kate Duong and freshman Megan Heuser sailed to a 6-1 win at No. 1 doubles, before the junior duo of Ashley Yeah and Josie Frazier gave the doubles point to the Illini with a 6-3 win on court two.
It was a back-and-forth affair in singles play as the Terrapins (12-2, 1-1 B1G) tied the score at 1-1 with a win on court three, before the Illini earned back-to-back singles victories as Heuser took a 6-4, 6-1 win over Jojo Bach on court four and Yeah defeated Minorka Miranda, 6-2, 6-2, on court two for her 10th singles victory of the season.
Maryland added another point on court one, but freshman Kasia Treiber finished off the Illinois win with a 6-3, 6-2 defeat of Kallista Liu on court five.
