Junior Mia Takekawa has been named Second Team All-America by the WCGA. She is the 11th Illini to earn All-American honors and the first since Sunny Kato in 2016 to earn the regular season recognition.
This season, she was named First Team All-Big Ten for the second time in her career. Takekawa broke the Illini All-Around score with a 39.750 and scored her second career 10 on beam, becoming the only Illini gymnast to score two tens in her career. She set new career-highs on the uneven bars (9.950), floor (9.925) and the all-around (39.575). She was named Big Ten gymnast of the Week (3/24/22).
Last weekend at Big Ten Takekawa earned a share of the beam title with a score of 9.950. Takekawa is the first Illini gymnast since Mary Jane Otto in 2019 to earn an individual event title at Big Ten's Bridget Hodan was the last Illini gymnast to earn the beam title, she achieved the title in 2018.
