GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Illinois men's tennis started their Florida trip with matches against Fairleigh Dickinson and the #1 Florida Gators on Wednesday. They defeated FDU 4-0 in the morning but fell 7-0 to Florida.
In the first match of the day, the Illini picked up the doubles point with wins on courts 1 and 2. No. 35 Hunter Heck and Lucas Horve defeated Dhouib/Adnane 6-1 before Siphosothando Montsi and Olivier Stuart clinched 6-1. Nic Meister defeated Linley 6-3,6-0 to give Illinois the 2-0 lead. Horve defeated Budinszky 6-0, 6-2 and Gabrieliius Guzauskas clinched the match on court 4, defeating Pietsch 6-0,6-4.
Illinois' match with the Gators was the second time in 11 days they played the #1 ranked team. Montsi/Stuart won their second doubles match of the day, defeating #54 Andrade/Siimar 6-3. Illinois lost the doubles point to Florida after Riffice/Shelton defeated #35 Heck/Horve 7-6(7). Florida swept the singles matches with #94 Andy Andrade clinching on court 4 over #117 Hunter Heck.
