TAMPA, Fla. -- The Fighting Illini started Wednesday with the official 2022 team photo at sun-kissed Raymond James Stadium. Temps shot to the mid-70s with no clouds to be seen, so a wonderful day to enjoy the outdoors.
Following the team photo, several players met with media near the famous Pirate Ship before the team bussed directly to the University of Tampa for a walk-through and team lift.
Using the coaching schedule, today is a "Monday" for preparation, and practices the next three days will be the most intense of the week.
Coach and staff spouses from both Illinois and Mississippi State attended a Luncheon at the Tampa Yacht Club.
Wednesday evening, the team visited Splitsville, a bowling and entertainment center, located on the waterfront at Sparkman Wharf in downtown Tampa, where they ate and enjoyed the games that are offered .
On Thursday, the Illini are scheduled to practice in the morning before visiting Busch Gardens in the afternoon.
Illinois and Mississippi State will meet on Monday, Jan. 2, at Raymond James Stadium in the 2023 ReliaQuest Bowl (12 pm ET/11 am CT on ESPN 2).
